The ship's log.

Only what has already happened, with its date.

We have run Infomail, a platform for sending newsletters, since 2002. Sumipost started eight months ago, from what our clients asked for and the work of our AI team.

The log
  1. It starts with Infomail's users

The requests we get from agencies and companies sound alike: emails that truly look like their brand, made in less time, that arrive whole in every mail program. We sit the people who look after our clients at the same table as our AI team.

  2. The first engine

An agent that writes the email in MJML and delivers it ready to open in Infomail's editor. Everything a mail program renders badly becomes a written rule that the agent follows: a register that is still growing.

  3. True to the original, and faster

From a screenshot the agent rebuilds the email and compares it with the original, measuring instead of describing. Photo cut-outs and parallel variants arrive; a job drops from 23 minutes to 8.

  4. A trial on Infomail's website

Visitors to Infomail's website can try the agent, with the email editor our clients already know. Before opening it we review security and privacy point by point, and its emails track neither opens nor clicks.

  5. A product of its own

The trial grows into a tool for people who make email for a living: start from the client's website and get their design system, six templates and the email written in their style, all the way to MJML and HTML code. It works with any platform, not just Infomail.

  6. The name is Sumipost, and Sumi arrives

Sumi is Japanese ink, and the name of the agent that writes the emails. The character is a small yellow brush with an ink-dipped tip.

  7. Paper inside, world outside

The new look: paper, ink and a single red for actions inside the tool; Sumi and its world only in the moments that matter, like the first meeting or the client's approval. The logo is a seal with the character 墨, ink.

  8. The website, first version

In Italian and English, with no cookies and no requests to third-party sites: we even host the typefaces ourselves. The demo at the top uses invented sample brands.

  9. A whole case, with real screens

Brezza, an eyewear brand we invented, taken through Sumipost from start to finish: style read from its website, templates, newsletter, checks and the client's approval. Brezza's photos are AI-generated and we say so next to them.

  10. Templates with real photos and typefaces

The sample emails on the site are no longer coloured boxes: four invented brands (an architecture studio, a winery, Brezza and a fourth, which since 2 November has been a perfumery) with their own photos, typefaces and six real structures. Switching brand switches the photos too. The photos are AI-generated.

  11. The tools, with real screens

The Tools page shows what's inside Sumipost: the image editor, four ways to make a brand, the brand book to download, the brand's rules and facts, teamwork. At the bottom, with their status, the tools on the way.

  12. Ardesia and Ardesia Web

Two sibling design systems, with the same colours, typefaces and shapes: Ardesia for the app, Ardesia Web for the website. Three colours have a job: shu acts, slate chooses, lemon says where you are. They replace «Paper inside, world outside».

  13. The website, redone with Ardesia Web

Night and Paper in turn, big headings in Inter Tight, labels in IBM Plex Mono, a ruler on the left that follows your reading. Sumi and its world leave the website: no more mascots. The new photos, portraits and paper flowers, are AI-generated and we say so next to each one.

  14. A perfumery and new screens

Fumaria, an artisan perfumery we invented, joins the sample brands: ink black, iris violet and Bodoni for headings. Its three photos are AI-generated. The screens of the Brezza case and the Tools page are redone with the app dressed in Ardesia.

  15. A team of agents, by name

Sumipost presents itself as what it is: a team of AI agents. One writes the email, one reviews it as a critic on a different model, one photographs the finished email and looks for defects. The AI page says what each one does, and what an agent doesn't do.

  16. Screens in English

The English website shows the workspace in English, with Brezza writing in English. The editor is still being translated: where it's missing, we say so instead of showing a half-translated screen.

  17. The logo is just the name

The seal with the 墨 character is gone: Sumipost's logo is the name, set in Inter Tight in shu red. The site's icon is its «s» too.

This is where we are. For us it's a starting point: we'll write the next lines together with the people who use it.
